Tom Moody Pulls Out As Western Australia Coach

Tom Moody Pulls Out As Western Australia Coach

Tom Moody has resigned as Western Australia coach in his native country

, but the love affair with India continues, with Kings XI Punjab, where he is the head coach. Tom has cited overseas engagements among other reasons for his moving out with Western Australia. Largely, it is the job with this Chandigarh-based franchise in the Indian Premier League.

The Tom of Old

It was against India that Tom made his international debut in the late 80s. He will be remembered for bowling the last over against India in a crucial World Cup game in 1992, denying India the much needed victory. Now, hes on the other side, helping an Indian Premier League team play to its potential. Four years ago, he was a frontrunner for the India coachs role, a position he narrowly missed when Greg Chappell took over; Tom went on to coach Sri Lanka successfully and only a mighty Australian side denied him the 2007 World Cup title as Coach.

Likes the Kings XI Punjab Coaching Profile

Like a lot of top coaches, Tom feels good about the experience of coaching within the subcontinents culture. Bob Woolmer too wanted to coach a sub continental team and handled the Pakistan national team admirably. Its not the lucrative offers always, but the chance to coach in a different environment and grow horizontally that attracts many former international players here. Nowhere has this been more profound than in Greg Chappell, who never toured India as a player but could not resist the lure of coaching there twenty-five years later.

See Punjab Home, Tom!

Tom will pull out all stops to ensure a title victory for the Lions from Punjab in season III of the IPL. He has seen the team through two seasons, where they had narrow misses. The former Australian all-rounder, known for his straight-speak approach will leverage the varied skills of the Kings XI Punjab players.

Professional Team Coach

In his assignment with Western Australia, Tom came in for praise for forging a great culture within the playing group and sound team preparation for the matches. Steve Waugh insisted in 2007 that Tom would be a great choice for the Indian Team Coach because he works well with the boys. Way to go, Tom! The Punjab side will lend its support in their combined pursuit of a premier title, something Tom was denied with the Sri Lankans in World Cup 2007.
