Tips For Taking Kids Camping

Camping is a great way to spend quality time with your kids with the added bonus of being outdoors

. Far too often it can be difficult to really connect with a child when cell phones are buzzing or the TV is blasting sound effects of a video game. Given the chance many children would rather be outside, they just need some ideas and somebody to have a good time with. With all the distractions gone and no schedule to meet you will be amazed how much easier it is to spend quality time with the entire family.

The first step is to leave the electronics behind when going camping. Make sure to convey this message to everybody packing. This will be a tough idea for your kids to accept as it's easy for children to become very attached to cell phones portable video games. By not bringing these devices along your children will learn to have fun the old fashioned way and engage in family activities.

Even though the technology devices and toys should be left behind games and lawn games that allow groups of people to participate should be encouraged and packed. Items to consider taking along include a football, books, board games, Frisbee, and even a basketball if a hoop exists at the campground. Fishing is a fun past time that the whole family can also enjoy. Bicycles are another option and the entire family can also enjoy a bike ride on trails. Other ideas for family entertainment include swimming, hiking, kayaking, and of course making smores over a campfire.

Before heading out make sure to contact the campground you plan staying at or visit the campgrounds web page. Most likely that will also be able to provide you with a list of activities that are available for their guests. Many parks will also have an area designed just for kids that include jungle gyms, slides, and other play areas. This information can also be useful when comparing different campgrounds in deciding where to stay.

The key for a successful family camping trip is to plan several weeks ahead. Comparing campgrounds and the activities offered will help you make the best decision where to stay and may even inspire some ideas of your own when planning activities. In the end a family camping trip can not only be fun, but also a great time for every body in your family to spend some quality time together.
