More than likely you are going to have to go out of town soon. Whether it be for pleasure, business, or any other reason. A disruption to your daily routine makes it hard to stay on track with your fitness and health goals. But, with some simple planning you won't miss a beat and will be able to stay on track.

Long car drives and long flights seem to really zap our energy levels. If you're in a car, it's easy to stop every few hours to stretch and grab a drink. Not so easily done on a flight. Take advantage of any layovers. Most airports are vast, if you have a few hours you can easily squeeze in a walk between the terminals. Be sure to pack some healthy snacks if the flight or car trip is going to be long. Protein bars, nuts, dried fruits, and granola all pack easily.

Once you arrive at your destination you'll have more options for healthy eating and exercise. A common form of exercising when traveling involves the use of elastic bands. A myriad of exercises can be performed using a set of these bands. You can get an excellent workout with no equipment at all, for example push-ups, sit-ups, and stretches are easily done in a hotel room. Most hotels offer some form of fitness center and a swimming pool. If your hotel lacks fitness facilities most gyms will offer travelers a week long out of town membership. One of my favorite things to do when travelling is to get outside and walk or jog. If you are staying in a safe neighborhood that has plenty of sidewalk space get outside! Getting outside will be much better for you than staying inside and working out.

Before you're next trip do a little planning on your health itinerary too. See what your hotel offers fitness wise, look for a market close by to purchase fresh fruits, scope out the neighborhood to see if it's walkable, and contact any gyms ahead of time to see about purchasing a pass for the time you will be there.
