Three Benefits That Your Kid Can Get From Playing Monopoly

Three Benefits That Your Kid Can Get From Playing Monopoly

Board games are incredibly fun, refreshing and entertaining ways to pass the time in one's home or in whatever place that you can play them in

. Out of the many popular board games out there that one can find in almost any household in America, you'll find that the board game Monopoly would perhaps be quite common.

It's the much celebrated game wherein you get to play a wealthy tycoon bent on owning every single piece of real estate, rail road or utility company on the board. It's a game of winner takes all, which is most commonly the person who has the most money.

So what does a cut-throat glimpse of the real world, board game have to do with your child and how it can actually benefit him? A lot actually. And it might not come to you as a surprise even.

It will teach him the value and importance of money.

Money makes the world go round; at least for the Monopoly world that is. You're not using real money here, but it feels just as real. The fact alone that you would be losing hundreds of monopoly money if you happen to land in the wrong lot hurts a lot.

Because of the unique blend of simplicity and a little preview of how rent, financing and debt servicing goes, your son or daughter would have a clearer picture on how important money is and how comfortable a life you would be able to live if you are able to save up enough. Through this game, your kid would also understand that a lack or shortage of money would mean that you would be headed into some troubled times too.

He shouldn't be disillusioned by the fact that he is provided with anything and everything he ever wants. A child must also understand, even if it is just a glimpse, of what we parents have to go through and sacrifice just so they could live a better childhood than what we used to have.

Math skills, you were thinking about this now, weren't you?

All these inflows and outflows of money from rent, passing go, paying utilities and all that would mean that your child would either have to start getting good at numbers or save up enough money to buy himself a calculator so he could keep track and properly manage his monopoly coffers if he wants to win someday. This means basic mathematical skills like multiplication, division, addition and subtraction would all have to come into play in this board game at one point or another.

Better cognitive skills

It takes a lot of brains and knowledge to determine or make out an elaborate plan for you to win at monopoly. You would have to carefully choose what lots to buy and in which lot you would have put up your first hotel. Your kid, after playing for a couple of games, would also start to pick up the habit of having a strategy to win. This will certainly help him develop his cognitive skills.
