The thread separating life and death is very thin!

We think we are immune to death. We forget it all the time yet it is very near, knocking at the door of everyone: It is time please.

Once born, We think we shall live for ever (this is true for believers in the hereafter, but these also have to suffer death, at least the first death). Once we are alive and kicking we imagine we are strong and healthy and have all of life in front of us. We never think that death is at the corner of our lives.

Death is not so far away and not so close. It can be closer than what we think. According to demographic world statistics every day there about fifty thousand who die and one hundred thousand who are born.

Whether these statistics are correct or not the inevitable birth and death are there to remind us of our short life-cycle. We are born, undergo the process of aging, get into the stage of adulthood and maturity.

We think we are strong physically, mentally, psychologically and spiritually to resist death, but only this feeling is the illusion of the moment. The moment is few years feeling this way. Then old age, for those who stay alive for more few years, installs itself gradually, inevitable, unavoidable imposing itself on us.

We then undergo all the signs of old age, weak after weakness being subject to all deteriorations of body and mind. There are those who are lucky enough to have strong body and mind most of their lives. But this rule is not comprehensive, it does apply to everyone. However, death strikes without making distinction between humans.

It touches on all ages depriving life and hope for everyone. Its touches on rich and pour, they are alike in death, for death does not differentiate between rich and poor. It does distinguish between classes. It does not differentiate between the knowledgeable and the unlettered. It does not distinguish between scientists and philosophers.

It does not take the intelligent and leave the less intelligent. It does not differentiate between believers and disbelievers. It does no make any difference between professionals and armatures. No one can stops it and escape. It does not spare, or miss ,any one. Every one is prone to death, children, adults, men, women and all other animal and flora species we can think of.

A life-cycle is imposed on us and death puts an end to it all.

The first question that comes to our mind is why on earth, once we are born and we come into life, should we die? Perhaps the counter question is, why should we live. Maybe you have the answer, wise guy!

Statistics show that although the probability of a normal health human being may go on to old age, there is no one guarantee for this.

No one has a written or oral guarantee from the death. No one has a guarantee from the creator of life and death of how many years he or she shall live. No one can possibly know the exact hour and second he, or she, is going to die.

Death strikes at everyone at a certain time. Our life-time in our days now is limited between birth time and about 120 years. Not much, compared with the age of the earth for example (about 5-6 billions of years, and compared to the age of the universe estimated by scientists between 13.3 and 20 billions of years.

Some trees live for a thousand year, for example the Cider Tree found in Lebanon. So our living time is very short and transitory.

If you think you are immune to death and are immortal, good luck to you. At least you can tell future generations of what you saw in the past.
