The Variations Of Online Poker

The Variations Of Online Poker

One of the great things about online poker is all of the variations it comes in

. Variety is important even when it comes to something as exciting as poker. There are times that you are going to want to play something new or something different and that is the time when the variety will really kick in. There are more varieties to the game then you probably even knew existed.

Firstly you have the ability to play a cash game or tournament style. In a cash game, you put your bankroll on the line. You have the option of choosing how much of your bankroll you want to sit at the table with. Then whatever you've decided to sit down at the table with is all on the line. Here you are able to win or lose a lot. Obviously the thrill comes with cleaning out someone else's bankroll.

Different people will come and leave the table and you can stay there while you battle with them. You need to be careful as in your effort to maximize your winnings you can leave yourself exposed and in turn vulnerable. Play in an aggressive style, but don't lose your head. You still need to be focused.

In a tournament game, focus and discipline are the keys. Here everyone starts with the exact same number of chips and the winner is the one who ends up holding all of them. As long as you still have chips you keep playing. The instant you lose them all you are eliminated. In some tournaments there are buy-ins when you can re-buy, but often these are only available for a certain amount of time.

Table size is a facet of poker which changes the game. Heads-up means you are only playing one other person and this will dictate to you the way you play. Heads-up requires a certain style of play and not everyone is good at it. If you are good you can overcome a significant chip stack deficiency to come out on top.

Size is also relevant when it comes to a tournament. You are going to be thinking differently about a single-table tournament consisting of 10 people as you would a multi-table tournament where over 1000 people are playing. The more people playing the more hard work you have to do. This is because the strength of what is a winning hand increases the more people who are playing. When it comes to heads-up you could win a hand with 6-4.

What also makes a difference are the antes. They are going to influence your thinking. When they are small you are more likely to be aggressive and forcing the play while when they are big you could tighten up due to the stakes which you are now playing for. People have emotions and regardless of how good a player you are, the higher the stakes, the tighter people are going to play. One only has to see the final table of the World Series of Poker main event to know how true this is.
