The USA And Russia In Spy Trade Off

Recently there has been a trade between the Russian Foreign Intelligence Agency and The USA's Central Intelligence Agency. The two organisations have exchanged 10 Russian citizens living in the US and working as spies for four people accused of espionage whilst in Russia. The swap is largely believed to be on humanitarian grounds and hopefully will improve relations between the two countries.

The trade should see communication between America and Russia improve in the future, there has not been a trade as large as this between the two countries since the days of the cold war.

The ten Russian's have been accused of falsely leading the lives and lifestyles of genuine American citizens and taking part in the following; use of secret codes and invisible ink, obtaining a US citizen passport falsely, living as a US citizen falsely and using FM transmitters to pass on any sensitive information. Some of the spies are said to have been in position since the early ninetees.

A spokeswoman for the Kremlin has recently discussed how President Dmitry Medvedev has now signed a decree to release four western spies that are currently imprisoned in Russia for working for western intelligence services.

Arms intelligence analyst Igor Sutyagin has already been released and deported from Russian soil, this will be seen positively by the US government. The States have now deported all ten Russian spies back to Russia in a swap for the remaining three spies due to be deported. None of the spies are said to have been particularly successful in infiltrating information from the US government prior to their release.

Each of the ten suspects all admitted that they were fully aware that their actions were illegal and during the court hearing they were forced to drop their US false identities and reveal their true identities instead.

Although the Russian Foreign Ministry members have accepted that the suspects are in fact of Russian origin they have yet to admit that they were put in place to spy on the US government.
