Playing in Two Player Board Games

A number of board games are created to be played completely by only two individuals and never more. These are some board games that you can play along with your friend, wife or special someone. The Abalone is a strategy board game played by each player having two sets of fourteen marbles each in a hexagonal game board with 61 spaces. The games objective is to shove the opponents marbles out of the board. Another game is the Chinese Checker with a goal of moving the pieces to the opposite side where the player started, and is played on a six-pointed star shaped board. The Othello, played with two sets of pieces on an 8 by 8 board, has an objective of preserving the majority of the pieces throughout the game and the player with the highest number of remaining pieces wins. Other board games that can be played by only two players are Checkers, Suguroku, Kamisado, Stratego, Plateau, Obsession, Backgammon, Cross and Circle, and Downfall.

The Strategic Game of Chess

Chess is one of the oldest board games and can only accommodate two players. Every players goal is to checkmate the king piece of the opponent where it has no room for moving without being attacked or captured. The game includes a checkered chessboard with 64 squares in an 8 by 8 grid. Each player has a set of eight pawns, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, one king, and one queen a total of 16 pieces for every player. Each player alternately takes turns in moving a single piece according to the movement rules except in castling where two pieces can move at the same time. Usually the player with the light colored pieces go first and the piece can land on an empty square or one which is occupied by an opponents piece but will be captured and removed from the game. The World Chess Federation maintains the rules and regulations of the game.

The Stirring Dungeon Board Game

Adventure board games make players depict unique characters that can acquire gears, augment its abilities and attributes as the game carries on. The very first adventure board game was Dungeon released in 1975 and was designed by Steve Winter, S. Schwab, David R. Megarry, and Gary Gygax. The game designed for two to four players consists of a rulebook, four colored Parcheesi-style playing pieces (white, blue, green, and red). An interesting part of the game set are the variety of treasures and monster cards design with black and white on one side while on the other side are different colors displaying the six different dungeon levels with increasing difficulty: first is gold, second is orange, third is red, fourth is magenta, fifth is green, and sixth is blue. The game is played with every players goal to defeat the monsters and collect as much treasures as possible back to the dungeon entrance. The most recent version of the game is the Dungeon and Dragons.

Clever Deduction Board Games

Board games that require a player to make use of ones intellectual ability to make logical judgment based on a particular premise fall under the category of deductive board games. A central mechanic of these games would include deductive reasoning to win the game. Two broad categories which fall under deductive board games include abstract deductive games which are non-themed and investigation deductive games where players portray characters. The mastermind, an abstract deductive game, is played by two which one makes the code while the other breaks it. The code maker pins up pegs on the game board in a specific pattern and the objective of the game is for the code breaker to guess the pattern of the colored pegs. Another is an investigation game called the Cluedo, which players depict a certain character, has a murder crime scene setting and players try to find out who the suspect of the crime is. Other picks of deduction board games include Black Box, Mystery Mansion, and Coda.
