The Job Of Battling Pancreatic Cancer

Years ago, then Apple CEO Steve Jobs learned that there is a tumor in his pancreas

. According to his doctors, the tumor is cancerous.

Jobs was then diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, specifically called an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor. He was aware the tumor can cause hormone imbalance.

To treat the illness, he tried to switch to a special diet. He did not want a surgery and he did not want the world to know he is sick.

Here is a timeline on how he battled the cancer.

August 1, 2004

For the first time, Jobs cancer is disclosed to the public. He also admits that he had a successful surgery to remove the tumor. He announces that he is no longer required to undergo chemotherapy or radiation.

June 12, 2005

Forty-nine year-old Jobs mentions about the cancer during a commencements address at Stanford University. This was the closest I have been to facing death, and I hope it is the closest I get for a few more decades, he tells the crowd.

June 9, 2008

It is recognizable that the CEO has gotten dramatically thinner. During the Apple iPhone event, it is rumored that his cancer had returned. Apple also states that he is fighting a common bug and that he is taking antibiotics to combat it.

July 21, 2008

Apple insists that Jobs health is a private matter. Apple adds that Jobs has no plans of leaving the company.

July 23, 2008

The New York Times reports that Jobs told the Apples board he is cancer-free. The report also reveals that he had a surgical procedure to earlier in the year.

July 26, 2008

An article in the New York Times files that Jobs said during an interview that his health problems are not life-threatening.

September 9, 2008

An internet report states that Jobs had a heart attack. Jobs proves that the report is baseless and fake.

Apple states that Jobs would not be able to deliver the keynote address at the Macworld trade show in January. The reason is his problematic health.

He admits he has hormone imbalance and has been losing weight. The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, Jobs writes in an open letter.

January 14, 2009

He announces he is taking medical leave that will run until June and affirms his health issues are more complex than what was first thought. "I look forward to seeing all of you this summer," says he in a letter to Apple employees.

As of press time, there is no statement on the reason why Jobs died. There is no confirmation if the pancreatic cancer is the illness that corrupted the life of the man who made Apple a technology deity and made the world closer with iPhone.
