The Importance Of Pet Safety When Travelling

The Importance Of Pet Safety When Travelling

Owning a dog is like having an extra family member

. We constantly hear about how dogs need to be looked after and cared for. We hear about the need for exercise, care of fur and claws, a healthy diet and the importance of good veterinary care. Yet we do not hear quite so much about how important it is to take care of your dog when travelling in the car. Dog guards are not cruel cages but intelligent items, designed for dog safety.

Increasingly people feel the need to take their pet out with them even for small journeys, treating them as a member of the family which is a wonderful thing to do. This gives your dog a treat and most pet dogs love the opportunity to spend more time with their owners. Travelling with your dog in your car does, however, mean you should consider its safety and comfort which is where dog guards have become popular. If a dog is left on a seat and you have to suddenly apply the brakes means your dog could easily fall sharply onto the narrow floor space and become injured. A dog that is not in a secure place in a car may also distract the driver or, quite possibly, other road users.

Another problem that can occur is if you need to make a stop en route and open a car door to let a passenger out or even to let your dog out for a toilet stop. It is all too easy for an excited or curious dog to jump out of a side door, from back seat bench or to jump through from the back of the car to a front door. You may not be on an open road when you stop, but it is likely you will be somewhere where there is access for other vehicles such a car park. Another car could be making a turn close to your vehicle or be about to park in the next door bay. Your dog could be seriously injured or killed if it escaped from the car without full supervision.

Therefore, if you are someone who likes to travel with your pet then you do really need to consider using a dog guard. This will give your dog safety and a sense of security because these guards are designed to help you keep your pet inside the car even when you are opening the boot.
