In fact Andalus was revered across Europe and the Middle East envied for its advancements and sheer beauty.
There is an Islamic legend that accompanies the story of Andalucas great wealth and blessings. The story goes that the people of El Andalus asked Allah for five favors:
- A sea full of fish
- Trees endowed with every kind of fruit
- Beautiful women
- Clear blue skies
- And a fair system of government
Allah granted all their wishes except for the last one based on that if all five favours were given, the Kingdom would become an unearthly paradise.
This is the place where great writers and poets like Hemmingway and Laurie Lee harvested their inspiration. It is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and Velasquez, the famous 17th century Royal painter. Here is where the setting took place for one of the worlds most famous operas Bizets Carmen. It is a unique setting where east meets west with an exotic and peaceful blend of Gypsy, Jewish, Christian and Moorish cultures.
