2. Know when to discipline. It's a huge no-no to scrutinize or reprimand a child in the presence of other people, especially non-family members. Plenty of the kids do end up getting traumatized and embarrassed by the experience. They will only harbor ill feelings toward you and may even grow up rebellious.
3. Be firm when you're disciplining. Parents are very compassionate toward their children, and many cannot discipline well because their great love and pity for their kids take over. But you have to be firm. If you they have committed something wrong, you should be firm in condemning what they did. Otherwise, they would think that they are just normal things to do.
4. Help them understand the process. Parents should not reprimand their children without letting them know the reason why. This is how you can make them understand that what they did was completely wrong. The consequence of their actions is getting disciplined. You should be able to do this before you completely forget the reason for what you did.
5. Focus on the act, not on the child. Don't cross the thin line between the act and the child. Keep in mind that you're not really angry at your kid but the actions he did. Else, you may end up developing some form of resentment toward your own child.
