Team Sports For Young Children

Team Sports For Young Children

At around the age of four or five, sometimes in conjunction with then your child starts school

, lots of sporting opportunities can arise.

Three years old is a little bit too young in several ways, including physically and mentally.

In the UK the most popular sport is football and the training usually starts at four years old. Rugby is also popular with boys and girls. At this age you may find that when you take your child to the first training session that they do not enjoy it as they can feel overwhelmed. If they go with a friend, they may just stick together and fool around.

It is worth pushing them to go and join in for a few sessions and give an incentive such as a new football strip if they start to go regularly. Still for some no incentive is enough, and for the sake of the child, if they have been a few times and still do not want to join in, it can be wise to stop taking them. It is better to wait until they are ready.

When you are choosing a sport, listen to what your child says and also make your own judgements based on what your child is like. Rugby is more physical and can suit very energetic kids, and also those who might need a little gently toughening up. Only children are often less used to rough and tumble with siblings and once they get used to rugby they can often really come out of their shells.

Once you join a team your child must understand that they have to go every week. Even if the weather is too cold, or the rain is pouring it is a good ethic in life not to let the team down.

This leads onto the benefits of sports for young children.
