Two of the main ingredients you need to make ice cream is ice and salt. While some use Epsom or rock salt, most use plain table salt. The two together makes what they call the freezing agent. Sometimes it is necessary to add more ice and salt throughout the process to ensure the ice cream freezes.
When purchasing an ice cream maker, most come with a recipe book. If yours does not, you can find all sorts of recipes on the internet. From diabetic friendly recipes to full blown rocky road, there is something for everyone. Basic recipes will include milk or cream, sugar and vanilla. If you start with a basic vanilla recipe you can add all sorts of things to make it blossom into different flavors.
