Straight Bath Suite Buying Guide

Straight Bath Suite Buying Guide

Although a bathroom suite with a straight sided

, fitted bath is perhaps the most common style of bathroom suite in homes across the UK, buying one of these suites doesnt have to mean a boring bathroom. There are different lengths available to suit different sizes of bathroom, plus there are variations on a plain bath which can give you an enhanced bathing experience or allow your bath to better fit your bathroom decor.

Lets look at size first. A standard length bath is 1700mm. This may be fine for your bathroom but there are other sizes available if not. Smaller rooms could benefit from a shorter bath in 1500 or 1600mm lengths, as overcrowding of sanitaryware or bathroom furniture can be a common underlying cause when a bathroom feels like anything but a relaxing, serene place to be. In larger bathrooms, perhaps you can afford to install a longer bath (1800 or even 1900mm) and indulge in a full length soak now and then bliss!

Choose, as well, from single or double ended styles. Double ended baths tend to have their taps in the centre of the bath on one side, while single ended ones have their taps at one end. Some straight sided baths will be supplied not pre-drilled for tap holes which can be an advantage if you are particular about where you want your taps to be positioned, or you would prefer to add a floor standing or wall mounted tap for a little unique style.

Straight baths can also house whirlpool jets and so bring a little spa-style luxury into your home. Hydrotherapy is great for alleviating all sorts of complaints from sore muscles to stress, and choosing a standard sized bath with whirlpool jets is a cost-effective way to bring this into your bathroom. Try adding a few drops of your favourite essential oil or oils to the bubbling water, to enjoy a heavenly aroma as you soak.

If accessibility is an issue, walk in baths are another option: fit a shower over one of these baths to keep all your bathing and showering activity in one place, or opt for a whirlpool bath if you favour a little indulgent me time when bathing.

Finally, the principal factor that can change the appearance of your fitted bath to fit in with your decor is the side panelling. Bath panels come in different styles and finishes: white acrylic is the most common and goes with just about anything, but you can choose to change the style of your bath to suit your floor and wall coverings or your bathroom furniture by opting for enhanced finishes such as oak or walnut real wood veneers.
