Staying Hydrated In The Summer

Staying Hydrated In The Summer

In the Summer, it is important to stay hydrated

, because when the weather is hot it is harder for people to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated while exercising can lessen your chances of having a sports injury, because you will have energy and be able to focus more on the sport at hand. Even if you aren't exercising, you should still stay hydrated, because it will help you to feel better in the hot summer months.

There are certain things you should avoid if you want to stay hydrated in the summer. You should avoid caffeine and alcohol because these actually dehydrate your body. Salt helps you retain water, so you might want to get a sport drink that has sodium infused in it so that your chances of staying hydrated increase. The general rule of thumb for those who aren't extremely physically active is to take your body weight, divide it in half, and drink that many ounces of water per day.

You should consider purchasing a filter for your faucet or a filtered pitcher. Plastic bottles are extremely harmful for the environment, and the more water you drink each day, the more bottles you dump at landfills. You favorite workout place, doctors office, or physical therapy place might have a reusable plastic bottle you can use with their logo on it. You do want to avoid tap water, because it has chlorine in it which is harmful in large quantities.

The more active you are or the hotter environment you exist in, the more water you need to drink each day. When you sweat you lose all of that moisture, which is why it is extremely important for runners and others that participate in exercise for long periods of time to keep drinking. You should have a glass of water when you wake up in the morning and continue to drink water throughout the day. Drink juice with every meal, and then drink a glass of water in between each meal. Eating fruits and vegetables is another way to stay hydrated. Making sure you eat some raw veggies and fruits throughout the day will not only replenish your water intake, but they will help you get the necessary vitamins you need as well. Watermelon, celery, and lettuce have a lot of water in them, and they are good for you, whether you want to eat healthier or just have a healthy snack during the day.

Take water with you everywhere you go to ensure that you'll be hydrated and won't get a headache or pass out. If you want something that has a little kick, try some vitamin water or a sports drink. You can even add a lemonade packet to your water to give it some flavor, but try to avoid using too much sugar. Whether you go to the beach or take a walk around the block, make sure you're drinking enough water to stay healthy and happy.
