, known as defendants in the court of law. Often, the defense lawyers start their career as prosecutors.

A state assigns a lawyer called a public defender to the defendants who cannot afford to hire a private defense lawyer. The job of a defense lawyer is to defend his client by bringing evidences to the court that show their clients are not guilty of the charges brought forth. A jurys job is to closely examine the proceedings and the evidences and declare the orders accordingly.

1.Becoming a lawyer needs a lot of commitment and hard work. You have to undergo years of training and practice. You have to develop certain skills right from early age. Lawyers need to have good verbal, writing and reasoning skills. He needs to be a good communicator and negotiator.

2.The first thing that is essential to get eligible for admission in a law school is to have four years bachelors degree. If you are still in a college or university, make sure that you maintain a good GPA. Your major usually doesnt consider much while applying for admission. The thing that matter is your GPA.

3.The next important step is to pass the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). After completing your college or university, register for the LSAT and start preparing for it. You need to score good in this test to make sure that you will get admission easily. Due to high competition for admission, your GPA and LSAT score are very vital.

4.Make a list of several law schools where you want to apply. Take help from the website of the Law School Administration Council (www.lsac.org/). You will also find details about the admission procedure on the website.

5.Once you are into a law school, start working hard from the beginning as you have to work really hard. Spend much of your time in library, doing some independent reading and studying cases. Your hard work is the only key to success in law school.

6.To polish your skills and techniques, visit law courts and watch trials. Focus on how the defense lawyer argues in favor of his client and how he approaches different cases. Not to forget about the prosecutor. You have to watch the proceedings very closely in order to become a good defense lawyer.

7.While still in law school, try to get an internship with a licensed defense lawyer or with a law firm to gain some work experience. This will prove a valuable experience when you go out in the job market after completing your graduation.

8.Earn your JD degree, and register for a bar exam. Review everything that you have done up till now as the bar exam will base on the question to check your thorough knowledge about the state and federal law. Earn your license, after passing the bar exam and start practicing law as a defense lawyer.
