. While there are regions which are even now, only inhabited by tribal man, like in the Amazons, there are also regions like Argentina and Brazil, which give enough proof of Portuguese and British influence on them. Planning a trip to this side of the world would definitely be one of the best experiences in anyone's life. Like any other place you visit, there are a number of things you should keep in check before embarking on a trip to South America. The following South America Travel Guide will be most useful in helping you plan your South American holiday:

1. Passport and Visas: In order to travel to anywhere in South America, you will need a passport with a minimum of 6-month validity. You will need a visa of each country you plan to visit. These can be obtained from the Consular representatives in your country.

2. Weather: Since South America is a large continent, its weather features differ from place to place. While places like Brazil are generally hot, coastal places like Ecuador, Venezuela and the Amazon forest are extremely humid. There is no one best time to go to South America. At the most, you could decide the dates for your trip depending on what weather suits you best.

3. Clothes: Take clothes that will leave you comfortable as much as possible. You should most certainly carry a pair of hiking boots, sneakers, a waterproof parka, cotton clothes, warm clothes, cargo pants, socks, a sun hat, and most importantly a SWIMSUIT! 4. Luggage: Carry only as much as you require. There are certain limitations that every airport and carrier impose on the travelers. Depending on your carrier and seats, you will be allowed more or less, so pack smart. Articles like a camera, a reasonable number of books coats and umbrellas are allowed to be carried along.

5. Currency: The best currency to carry around is either the Visa Travel Money or Travelers Checks. It would also be advisable to carry a suitable amount of American currency notes as these can be used anywhere in South America, and also the exchange rate for them is excellent. Keep in mind that Travelers Checks or Visa Travel Money are much smarter options as they have advantages if they are lost or stolen.

6. Before You Leave: Before leaving on your trip, make ample of photocopies of airline tickets, passport identification pages, credit cards and other ID you are carrying along. Leave them with a friend or relative back home. Give proper details of your plan to the person who is your host. Also, let people back home know where they can contact you. Make arrangements for your daily home services like the post or newspaper delivery. Switch all gas outlets and electrical appliances off. Inform the Police about your trip.
