Scarless Breast Reduction Through Liposuction

Excessively large breasts can make a woman look matronly and top heavy

. Oversized breasts can also be cumbersome and physically uncomfortable. Back aches, shoulder aches, pinching bra straps, ill fitting clothes and difficulty participating in athletics can all be the unfortunate results.

A traditional breast reduction surgery is called a reduction mammaplasty and involves incising away excess skin, glandular tissue and fat and then suturing all back into place. This is a fairly major surgical option that is performed by a plastic surgeon in an outpatient medical facility under either a general or local anesthetic. The patient will need to plan on time off of work for recovery and several weeks to a couple of months before returning to a regular regime of physical activity.

Liposuction is not quite as extensive of a procedure. There are also fewer risks than with the reduction mammaplasty, such as loss of the nipple's nerve sensation or difficulty with future breastfeeding. In a liposuction procedure, small incisions are made in the areas of excess fatty deposits and a slender tube called a cannula is inserted. Depending on the method, a salt water tumescent fluid is often injected in order to stiffen and swell the area and make it easier to complete the process.

The fat in the area is liquefied and then removed by a suctioning device. After the procedure, compression garments will need to be worn in order to support the area and to aid in healing. Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed in order to lower any risk of infection developing as the body heals. There will be some swelling and bruising initially and the patient will need to take a couple of days off of work. Within a few weeks, however, they should be able to go about their regular routine.

Breast reduction using liposuction works best if the woman's chest area is more heavily comprised of excess fatty tissue rather than glandular. Glandular tissue would not be affected by liposuction. A good candidate for this method should also have satisfactory skin elasticity so that all will tighten again after the fat removal.

If a person is interested in reducing the size of their bustline and is wondering which method might be the best for their individual case, they should make an appointment with a reputable plastic surgeon. It would be best to seek the advice of a physician who has expertise with both types of surgeries and ask for their professional opinion.
