Reviewing the Unibind XU238 Binding Machine

Selecting a thermal binding machine for your office can be challenging

, but only if you don't know what to look for. Unibind offers some really great machines, including the XU238. Here are the strengths and weaknesses of this product to make your shopping a little bit easier. Strengths: Unibind machines offer one of the speediest binding methods around. With the XU238, you can bind up to 16 books at once and it will only take about 90 seconds to bind all of them. A green light will turn on when the cycle is complete. The XU238 doesn't need to warm up before it is used. To turn it on, all you need to do is place your spine or cover (with the document in it, of course) on the heater and the machine will immediately begin binding. After binding is done, you can move your booklets to the XU238's two cooling units to harden the resin in the spine. This machine is compatible with all of Unibind's spines and covers, such as PhotoBooks, SteelBacks, and more. This means you have a lot of options and can choose just the right look for your book. You can bind books that contain up to 340 pages with Unibind spines and covers. The smallest cover can contain 1 to 10 pages. This is a very clean binding method because the glue will stay inside the spine and won't leak all over the place. You also won't have to deal with paper bits, color coil scraps, or any of the other garbage that comes with using other document finishing methods. The books you create with this machine will look very professional, like they were bound by a major publisher. This type of binding is especially good for marketing materials, yearbooks, self-published works, and any other document that needs a polished, professional look. Weaknesses: The XU238 is a rather large device that will take up quite a bit of room. Offices with limited space might find it difficult to make room for this machine. The thickest cover/spine available for this method measures 1.5 inches and it can contain 340 pages. You cannot bind longer documents, unfortunately. The supplies that are available for the XU238 only come in a handful of sizes. Letter-sized and half-letter documents can be easily put together, but those are the only lengths available. If you need spines that are either longer or shorter than 8.5 or 11 inches, you'll need to select a different binding method. Unfortunately, Unibind supplies can't be trimmed down because of the steel in the spines. Unibind can be a pretty expensive document finishing method due to the cost of supplies. You're looking at spending a dollar or more for each spine you use, so this may not be the best system for you if cost is an issue. However, you can save money on covers and labor with the system which can help to offset the cost of the spines or covers. Overall, the Unibind XU238 is the device to use if you need a fast and easy way to bind up to 16 booklets at once. There is a wonderful selection of supplies available so your books will look great. Although this machine and binding method have a couple of drawbacks, this is the machine to get if speed and great looks are at the top of your priority list.
