Review on the Ping i15 Fairway Wood
The fade-biased design and low-profile club head make the i15 workable and versatile for skilled players. Its slightly longer clubface creates a larger effective hitting area (more forgiveness) while internal weights place the center of gravity in a low, central position (front to back). This contributes to low-spin shots and a penetrating trajectory. Like all Ping clubs, the i15 is fully customizable. The PING G10 driver has had quite a bit of success over the past couple years and has now morphed into the G15. For some reason I never saw as many G10 fairway woods in the bags of the better players around the club or even on Tour. The new I series is meant to penetrate that market.
Like most fairway metals on the market, and in the PING lineup, the head of the i15 uses a 17-4 Stainless Steel metal. The shape is slightly elongated from heel to toe to add a bit of forgiveness. The custom internal weighting will help produce lower spinning shots with a more penetrating trajectory.
Like the driver, the internal weighting is designed to offer a more penetrating trajectory, less spin and fade bias. The head has been elongated to increase MOI by 13% to generate greater forgiveness.
The PING i15 fairway wood should suit golfers who like the trademark PING fairway wood shape and are not intimidated by a shallow face and relatively small head. This fairway wood should also appeal to those who want to shape their shots.
With the low profile size and shape of this Ping i15 fairway wood, a skilled golfer is given control to work the ball from various lies. It also has high MOI for forgiveness and for enhancing distance. This is made for better golfers who are looking for distance and versatility in a fairway wood. This gives you a high-performance fairway wood which you can use in all conditions. It is made with a stainless steel head which is a bit elongated from heel-to-toe for enhanced forgiveness. It is also internally weighted to give you low spin shots and a penetrating trajectory that skilled golfers want.
The first change between the G series is that the head size is smaller. The 15.5 degree lofted i15 is 13cc smaller (154cc vs 141cc.) This is even a much, much bigger difference than my Callaway X-Hot which tops out at 202cc. Which is over 43% bigger than the i15? That's a lot of figures in only a couple sentences. Just know that there aren't many other fairway metals on the market as small.
Developed for better golfers who rely on the distance and versatility of a fairway wood, this PING i15 features a sleek, low profile shape that delivers high performance from all conditions. The stainless steel head is slightly elongated from heel-to-toe for added forgiveness, and internally weighted to produce low spinning shots with the penetrating trajectory preferred by more skilled golfers. Each of the three options, including a strong 3-wood, standard 3-wood and 5-wood, are designed with a fade bias to ensure the workability required in a player's club.
