Review of TaylorMade Burner Fairway Wood

The new, explosive TaylorMade Burner Fairway Wood comes with a super sleek oversized steel club head that is said to have the highest MOI of any fairway wood currently available. This results in tremendous forgiveness for further, straighter shots on off-center hits. TaylorMade has also claimed that its MOI is 30% higher than their r7 steel fairway woods while its featherweight Dual Crown redistributes the weight for a lower, ultra-deep CG location to consistently launch high and long fairway shots. Thus, high trajectory with greater carry and distance is not out of reach anymore.

The TaylorMade Burner Steel fairway wood is developed for players who like to swing fast and hit the ball hard, high and long. The TaylorMade Burner Steel incorporates a large, classically shaped steel club head that boasts the highest MOI of any fairway wood in golf. Compared to TaylorMade's r7 Steel fairway woods, the Burner Steel's MOI is a full 30% higher. Burner Steel's unusually high MOI combines with its shallow clubface design and low, far-back CG to make it tremendously forgiving and easy to hit. TaylorMade Burner Steel fairway woods are also exceptionally long, thanks to TaylorMade's SuperFast Technology, which incorporates a light TaylorMade RE*AX graphite shaft and light grip to promote faster swing speed and faster ball speed for increased distance. Additionally, the crown features the same SuperFast Technology markings as the Burner driver.

The Burner fairway woods come in two flavors, High Launch, which is designed to help golfers with average swing speeds launch the ball on a "towering, long-carrying flight" and Tour Launch which is designed for better players with higher swing speeds to give them a more penetrating ball flight while still allowing for workability.

Both versions share several design characteristics, the first being the Dual Crown technology which is also featured in the Tour Burner driver. Featuring a crown that is smaller than the sole helps to lower the center of gravity to make it easier to launch the ball higher with less spin.

I would recommend the Burner Steel for players of all skill levels, the better player would benefit from the increased forgiveness without having to sacrifice control over the golf ball. The higher handicap player will benefit from the deeper head; it moves the center of gravity further from the face for an increased moment of inertia. The Burner Ti is ideal for the higher handicap player yet will benefit anyone. The titanium construction provides higher initial ball speeds for increased distance, great for someone who needs to get a little more out of their woods. Lower handicap players will like the distance that they gain, while the higher handicap player will see huge benefits from the forgiveness that is offered by the larger head size.
