In total, thirty one percent of people have had to move house to accommodate these costs, which is a stark contrast to the eight percent who estimate that they will have to move house once they have retired, to save themselves money. Thirty eight percent of retirees have found that their financial situation is worse than they have expected, and have had to move to smaller properties in cheaper areas to be able to afford to live. The top priorities recorded for retired people when they are looking for new places to live are friendly neighbourhoods and good shopping facilities. They also value a safe feeling neighbourhood.
