Once you have reduced your carbon footprint you can always look at offsetting the remainder.

There is a wide range of choice when it comes to responsible holidays. If you're looking for an active adventure, one option is to go trekking. Asia and South America are popular destinations for those looking for guided group trips. You will get to see spectacular scenery, experience different cultures and stay in various types of accommodation.
If you are interested in wildlife, an expedition to Africa could be ideal. You'll be able to go on safari, go in search of gorillas in the jungle and experience truly unique local hospitality. Alternatively, how about Asia, where you can follow the trail of the Komodo dragon or scale a live volcano?
Even more traditional holidays can be given the environmental treatment. There is no need to forgo annual skiing holidays. Instead, you simply need to do them a little differently. Travel by train rather than by aeroplane, choose an eco-friendly resort and ski cross country, as this is not dependent on groomed slopes and chair lifts.
Instead of skiing holidays in Switzerland you could opt for a walking holiday in this beautiful country. This would allow you to see a totally different side to Switzerland. Walking holidays on Italy's Amalfi coast are also becoming increasingly popular, as they give travellers the chance to explore the region in a way that is simply not possible with package tours.
Whether it is by adapting the type of holiday that you already know and love or by setting off on a new adventure, travelling responsibly need not mean compromise. Instead, it should be viewed as a way of seeing the best of the world whilst preserving it for future generations.
