Relocating Tips For The Family

Because of the increasing ease of travel as well as the opportunities available overseas

, many Indian families jump at the chance to live in a foreign country for work and lower cost of living. The following are just some tips you need to know and do after deciding on living in another country.

Familiarization. Because you are basically asking your family to uproot themselves from where they are currently living and restart their lives in a foreign land. This is a hard sell so in order to lay the groundwork, it is best to have a familiarization process with the new country of residence. You can start out by tasting their cuisine right in your home town, if available. You can also start providing basic information. The big step is going down to the country for a vacation so that your family can have a first hand view and feel of their new home.

Inventory. Since you are essentially moving out, you need to have a complete inventory of the things that you would need in your new home. This depends on your accommodations in the new country of residence. You need not bring everything, just the bare essentials for your transfer of residence. Those things you do not need, you have the option of giving them away or selling them. This not only lessens the inventory you have, you also lower your overall moving expense costs. Another option would be placing them in storage, but you do need to pay in advance so that your stuff won't be sold at auction.

Preparing for the Trip. This day would be the longest one you would be having in a while. You need to have all your papers in order, such as passports, visas, plane tickets and boarding passes. You also need to be at the airport a bit earlier than usual as you need to check in your baggage and properly itemize them through customs officials. You also need to arrange for transportation to the airport and from the airport to your new home destination. You also need to be aware of the time of departure and keep track of everyone with you on the trip. Since it may be a transatlantic flight, you may need to have games to keep the young ones occupied in the long haul travel.Relocating Tips For The Family

Organize your Personal Paperwork. Since you would be essentially closing down your life in your old country and ramping up your new life with your family in the new residential country, you would need to have all your documents in order. You need to close all your bank accounts and have certified bank statements. Credit cards and other bills need to be paid. You also need to have your insurance transferred as well as wire all your benefits to your new nest egg. You also need to have complete employment as well as educational records on hand as this would help in the transition. All these papers need to be with you when you travel but do not forget to have certified copies in case they get lost in transit.

Medical Preparations. Depending on where your new residential country would be, you need to prepare medically for the area. These include knowing what to do and who to contact in case of emergencies. Also, you may need to be immunized for the location as well as understanding common issues that expats may have regarding local conditions. Knowledge in this area is important as it would help you and your family becomes more acquainted with the area.

As you can see, there's a lot of work to be done when you are moving your family to relocate overseas. Being prepared and working together can help you and your family bond together more as you take on a new adventure to a foreign country.
