Teens Who Competed In Greensboro Involved In Car Accident
A teen whose smiling face had recently been on the Jumbotron at the Health Occupation
Students of America statewide competition that was held in Greensboro has died, and three of his teammates have sustained injury in a single vehicle accident. The tragic loss of life and the injuries incurred by the other teens have reminded all in the area of the dangers of North Carolinas roadways whether in Greensboro, Charlotte, or Winston-Salem.Thomas Luciano, the South Mecklenburg teen who helped to lead his school to its first first-place medal during the competition in Greensboro, was on his way to a Spring Break beach outing with three of his teammates immediately following the competition when the SUV driven by one of his friends overturned as the driver lost control of the vehicle. Luciano was thrown out of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other teens were injured in the wreck. The accident remains under investigation, and police have not indicated whether the driver will face charges. Authorities have also not released details as to the type or extent of injury any of the teens sustained.
