Registryquick - Review Of The Registryquick Registry Tool

RegistryQuick is a registry cleaner that has been on the market for several years

. As with most software, some people like it and get good results, others seem to have what I like to call "bad tech karma" and they just can't get it to work for them. It's always best to try out software for yourself, and a trial version of RegistryQuick is available, but since you're here anyway, you might as well read my RegistryQuick review.

First Launch

After launching RegistryQuick's main window lets you choose what categories of registry entries you would like to scan. The options are:

COM/ActiveX Entries

Uninstall Entries

Font Entries

Shared DLLs

Application Paths

Help Files Information

Windows Startup Items

File/Path References

Program Shortcuts

Empty Registry Keys

File Associations

Mousing over any of the corresponding checkboxes will give you a little background information on every category.

Settings

The Settings section of the main window lets you customize RegistryQuick's behaviour to fit your needs. You can set options for automatic shutdown after repair, automatic repair after scanning, creation of a Windows system restore point before repair (highly recommended!) and automatic checking for program updates. You can also define an ignore list and schedule RegistryQuick to run at predefined times automatically.

Backup

The Backup section lets you backup and restore your registry database, should anything go wrong with a repair attempt. It contains a list of the previously created backups, if any, with time and date of the backup. To restore the registry to a previous state, simply select the appropriate backup and click on Restore.

The Scanning Process

After selecting what categories to scan, hit the Start Scan button in the main window's Scan section, and RegistryQuick will start scanning the registry. You can watch as RegistryQuick scans the different registry sections, any errors that are found are added to the counters in the scan process area. Depending on the size of your computer's registry database this may take a couple of minutes. When the scanning process is done, you can click on Next and the results window will appear.

Scan Results

The results window contains every registry key RegistryQuick has found to have a problem, grouped by category. You can open any category by clicking on the plus sign which will reveal every single registry entry in that category that RegistryQuick has marked as having a problem. You get a plain text explanation of the error and, by clicking the checkmark next to an entry, you can exclude the entry from repair if you like. You can also put any item on the ignore list from here.

Once you've selected or de-selected the entries you want RegistryQuick to repair, hitting Fix Errors will start the repair process.

Repair

While repairing the entries RegistryQuick will show you its progress and report any errors. When it's done you'll be presented with a summary window where you can check if the repair process finished to your satisfaction. To be sure all the problems were repaired, you might want to start another scan right after the repair finished. If everything went as expected, the scan shouldn't find any more errors.

Pros

- Easy to use

- Fast scanning process

- Does a good job with default settings, but gives you manual control if you want that

- Ignore list

- Scheduler

Cons

- Unregistered version will only repair entries in Font Entries and File Associations

- If you leave the results window and switch to another area of the window, you need to rescan to see the results again.

Conclusion

RegistryQuick is an easy-to-use and efficient registry repair tool that does what it says on the box. It's fast, finds and fixes most errors and lets you backup and restore your registry. It offers less options than some competitors, but it does what it does quite well - which is essentially what counts.
