Over the years, the Redwoods of Northern California have become known as an attractive

With a history that reigns back to Californias gold rush period, the Redwoods extend from Big Sur to the Oregon Border, near Fortuna, and consist of a large rural atmosphere. Along with a view of a large, immaculate coastline, the Redwoods consist of the worlds tallest trees. Every year, many travellers make the pilgrimage to the Northern California Redwoods to take in the striking sight of these massive trees, indigenous flora, grassland prairie, streams, and ocean.

In addition to hiking along the forest and enjoying the quiet scenery, the Redwood forest vacation offers several events, festivals, and recreational activities for interested sightseers. These activities include fishing, surfing, and sailing. Among the most popular places and activities are:

Paddle to the Headwaters is an annual canoe-kayak event whose centerpiece is a 30-mile marathon down the Eel River. It begins in Dyerville (north of Weott) and ends at Fortunas River Lodge. The marathon is open to both serious racers and recreational canoeists who simply wish to paddle for pleasure.

Excellent freshwater fishing can be found on several rivers in and nearby Humboldt County. The Van Duzen, Mattole, Eel, Mad, Klamath, and Trinity Rivers together with all of their tributaries, provide thousands of miles of excellent fishing for: salmon, steelhead, cutthroat trout, shad, and sturgeon.
