Recycling Toys For Donation - Get Your Kids On Board

, still in good condition, that the kids have outgrown talk to your kids about donating them to charity. Recycling toys this way is a fantastic way to give children a chance to see the world outside of their own family situation.Empathy about the plight of others and their feelings is an important trait to instil in children from an early age. Without getting too dramatic, a few clean toys in working order is a fantastic way to get kids thinking about the world around them and being generous with things that are lying around.
Have the Talk
Before launching into packing the goods in a box and handing them to the kids remember to think about their feelings and how attached they may be to a toy at any given stage of their life. If they are old enough to reason with and understand that they are too old for something, then you have a good chance of getting them to donate it. Five and older is a good age.
Speak with them about some children not having a lot to play with, and perhaps not having the resources within their family to buy many toys. Be careful not to make them feel guilty or obligated because they feel sorry for them. It's better motivation to have them understand that not everyone has the same opportunities and that is okay. It doesn't make the other children worse people they just need a helping hand as we all do sometimes.
Let Them Choose
Make a few suggestions and then leave them to decide which they will part with. It may only be one item to start off with. That is fine. Give them praise and tell them they will make a younger child very happy. Don't force them into parting with everything. If the experience has bad memories it will be hard to get them to repeat it.
This is not only helping out the community but it is a great way to reinforce the 'reduce, recycle, reuse' practice.
Make Sure The Toys Are In Working Order And Clean
Charity groups are not tip shops. Be sure that whatever you donate is in good repair and even think about adding some batteries to those toys that need it. Disinfect everything to avoid passing on bacteria. This will be greatly appreciated by the staff and volunteers at the service.
Excess Gifts
It may be that your children have been given more than one of something on special occasions or even been given something that is not age appropriate. Perhaps it is a toy that you disapprove of.
These are also perfect opportunity to encourage children to donate the toys. You may find that you need to explain this to the gifting adult at times. Just explain that you are trying to instil a giving nature and teach your kids about caring for others that are less fortunate at the time.
Pride
It won't be long before the kids are going through their things without being prompted and handing them over for donation. You can be proud of them and they will have a good feeling about the toys not going to waste and that they have spread some joy.
