The park was moved to a new location at Ragunan, South Jakarta and was given 135 hectares of land. It is now home to 550 species of tropical plants and animals from Indonesia. The park also has a gigantic natural hippo pool, a special collection of crocodiles and spacious enclosures for the deer. The 30,000 plants of the zoo make it a zoo cum park. A collection of rare and endangered gibbons move about freely in a large enclosure with natural surroundings which can be located in the center of Ragunan Zoo.
It is ideal to visit the park on weekends as it is less crowded. Not only does the Ragunan Zoo raise your awareness of Indonesia's unique wildlife heritage; its also a family entertainment venue. There is also a pony cart, elephant and camel rides for the visitors which are also available only on the weekends. It's a wonderful place for an outing with the family or friends.
