Providing Guidance And Community: Children's Ministry

The proverbs of Solomon impart wisdom to live by

. Even in secular circles, these Proverbs are constantly quoted for their foundational teachings, and referred to as guideposts to the community. While the most desirable outcome would be for a parent to lead and guide his or her own children, there are many instances when the parents are not able to participate in nurturing their children.

In situations where parents are not present to help form their children in maturity, the youths do not have to be left to fend for themselves. Compassionate children's ministries can come along side struggling parents to shore up guidance and mentorship for the youth. Many important lessons are bestowed upon people during their formational years, and though the church often focuses on issues of morality the most important truth they will use to shape any person's life is the grace of Jesus Christ.

Regardless of the way a family unit functions, if a Mother or Father has gone through difficult times, if finances are tight, if spiritual values are not present or a child is not physically provided for, men and women in ministry will provide the truths of Scripture to equip people of all ages to trust in real provision. As young ones are brought up with the help of ministry they will hear teachings that do not make light of their struggles, but rather focus on the Provider and His hope.

It is a difficult task for any young person to grow up without the love of a parent. Whether work or other unfortunate circumstances have kept Father's or Mother's from being present as their progeny mature the absence of this formational relationship creates a prime environment for youths to learn from poor influences. Unfortunately, sometimes a present parent may serve as a negative influence as well. When the child is left in the care of a church as his or her guardian it is given a strong commandment.

Though the church may be stained with dissension and political rivalry, the true body of Christ will serve to push back the darkness that threatens. A true interest in orphans, and youth left to fend for themselves, is the heart of a strong children's ministry. No one should be left alone, especially the young. Everyone should be provided for, from their most basic needs such as food, shelter and safety to the provision of a supportive community.
