Planning For Your Emotional Retirement

Planning For Your Emotional Retirement

If you are ready to begin planning a retirement, there are a few factors you must consider. Money is only one consideration in your retirement plan. You must think about location, your medical condition, health issues, family and your own emotional acceptance. Are you ready to retire emotionally? What are your days going to be, once you no longer have a job to go to each day? For many people who have worked hard all their lives, retiring can be a physical struggle. It always gets lost in the plan for retirement need.

The first need is money. You will need to make a plan regarding how much you will have to live on each month, will be enough for your needs? You can change homes and move into a smaller house, a motor home and travel the country, live in a small mobile home park or move in with the kids. Next is to consider where you want to be located. If you have children and grandchildren spread across the country, you need to live in the best location for all of them. Sometimes this mean living in an area somewhere in between with no family ties within a 100 miles.

Choose a location or home near one of the families as a base of comfort. You can visit the other throughout the year or they can come to a location near you. Weather is something you must plan for. Extreme snow in the winter or extreme heat in the summer can determine your location. If you are able to travel, living in cooler areas in the summer and the warm south in the winter is a great solution. Now it is time to stop and think about what you are going to do on a daily basis. Watching all your favorite TV programs is great for the first few days, but after that, you become restless and need to do something.

Finding an outdoor hobby together like fishing, hiking or boating is a great way to retire. However, for others they will miss the day to day grind of a job. There are a lot of opportunities for volunteers at hospitals, VA centers, daycare and even with animals. Sometimes people just need a friend to sit with them and listen to their stories of life. The point is, do not sit around and become so bored you regret retiring. Find something to do. Create a new life or write a book. Learn a new skill like wood working, sewing, sky diving or become a tour guide.

Retirement can be great if you are really ready for it. It is a hard decision right now. Money is tight and jobs are in short supply. However, if you can retire from your job, you are opening a position for someone else with a family to support and a life need of their own. Do not forget to consider what you are going to do every day during your retirement from a job. Stay busy, have fun and help others to adjust to their own retirement.
