1. You should need a Visa to enter Kerala(m), India

You would need a tourist visa to travel to Kerala, India. Try contacting your travel agent or you can approach any of the Indian missions or Indian embassy in you present location. You cannot enter the county without a valid visa.

3. Foreign Exchange

The currency in India is Indian Rupee. Always approach an authorized currency exchanger. All airports have foreign exchange counters mostly owned by banks. 4. Credit and debit cards

Credit cards are accepted in all major outlets, shops and other service providers. But still please make sure that the shop accepts credit cards before any purchase. Visa and Master cards are the major cards that are accepted, but still there are other cards also that are accepted.

5. ATMs

You can find an Automated teller machine in every city and town in Kerala. Please carry enough money when you are travelling to villages. You might not find one in the village areas. Please note the Visa and MasterCard logo on the ATM board. The minimum withdrawal is Rupees 100/- and the maximum is Rs 50,000/-. Please note that the withdrawal depends on what kind of card that you possess.

6. Clothing and Accessories

Cotton make outfits, hats & caps, sunglasses, and remember to carry sunscreen lotion when you travel around in Kerala. There are some major hill stations in Kerala, so please don't forget to take sweaters too if you have a plan to visit these hill stations. The average temperature ranges from 21 to 39 degree Celsius in these hill stations. Please make sure that you don't wear tight cloths exposing your skin while traveling to villages. In tourist areas and cities, it does not matter a lot.

7. Medicine store

One can find a medicine store in every city town and village in Kerala. Most of them would be having a good stock of all the medicines. Clinics and hospitals can be found everywhere. You shouldn't worry about that.

8. Narcotic Drugs and cigarette

All intoxicating drugs are illegal in Kerala, India. Heavy punishments including imprisonment are imposed for possession of narcotic drugs. Smoking cigarette in public is banned in Kerala.

9. Restaurants and Bars

All standard restaurants offer a variety of cuisines including Continental, Chinese, Indian and typical Kerala food. Bars are common and you will find it everywhere. You will not find liquor shops in Kerala. All liquor is sold through Kerala State Beverages corporation outlets. Only three star and above category hotels would have a Bar. If you are a wine drinker, then please visit high end bars if you would want bigger choice.

10. Transportation

There are all kinds of transportation facilities available in Kerala. Take Auto rickshaw for short distances, these drivers would be well versed with cities and towns. Always ask for the fare before you start the journey to avoid complications in the last minute. It is always better to travel by car if you are planning to travel long distance. Taxis and rickshaws are available everywhere, look out for taxi stations/ Stands. There are buses available for long and short distances, approach the bus station master to know the timings.

12. Electricity

The electric power in Kerala and other states of India is 240 volts. Always carry a voltage converter if you have electronic devices which work on other voltage capacities. A voltage converter is available in all electric shops. Its always better to carry it with you when you come. The plugs in kerala are round pin variety and it better to carry a combination plug adaptor if you your electronic equipment has a flat pin type plug.

13. Water

It is not advisable to drink water from slow moving streams, lakes or dams. Mineral and packed drinking water is available in sealed bottles.

14. While visiting religious places

Entry to some Hindu temples is restricted to non Hindus. Do check what others are wearing while entering a Hindu temple. In some temples, you might need to remove your shirt and has to wear a dhoti, which is a long piece of cloth worn like a kilt. Please make sure that you remove your footwear before entering places of worship. Please ask your driver or a local person about the temple etiquette or custom before entering.

Make sure that you approach an authorized Ayurveda center or hospital. Approach a local tourist information center. Make sure that there is an Ayurveda doctor at the rejuvenation center. Call 69999999 (just dial) or 4444444 (get it) from any land phone to get the phone numbers of hotelsm restaurants, tourist information centers or any other local service providers. You can also call from a local mobile phone (prefix local STD code in the above numbers) and ask for the phone number that you are looking for. They will send a sms to your local mobile number. Just dial and Get it are private yellow pages, they provide very effective services.
