Sagunto, also called Sagunt is a part of the Valencia province

. This moderately populated town is one of the industrialized centers of Spain. It is also a popular tourist destination. The city has a long history dating back to 219 BC. According to historians the city was under the control of Carthaginians. The city is located on the banks of a famous river called Palencia. It has a port which is one of the busiest ports of Spain. The town has many famous steel and iron foundries. Now let us go round this town:

The beach:

As said earlier the city has a busy port. This does not deter the tourists because tourists have been provided a separate place where they can relax and enjoy the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean Sea. There are enough facilities for playing water sports. There are also separate enclosed areas for children and elderly people.

Roman theater:

Like many parts of Spain, even the city of Sagunto was under the influence of Romans. This is evidenced by the Roman Theater which is located in the midst of the city. This well preserved Roman Theater attracts large number of tourists throughout the year. When the city was under the rule of Moors, some of the works of Romans were damaged. However in later period of the Moors civilization, damaged portion of the theater was repaired and restored to its original beauty.

Historical buildings:

The city has many buildings which are of historical importance. The city was under the influence of many cultures and has buildings built by great people belonging to these cultures like Moors, Romans, etc. The imposing beauty of these buildings has glorified this city. In fact some of these ancient buildings are also termed as archeological treasures. Such is the beauty of these buildings.

Bird watching:

Sagunto is a heaven for those who have a fancy for bird watching. Many species of migratory birds can be found here. The famous Marjal dels Moros is one such place which is never missed by the tourists.

Festivals:

If you are planning your visit, then plan to reach Sagunto in the month of October. This is because during this time the famous Filaes' parade is held. The festival is organized by the Christians and Moors Association.

Natural reserve:

Monte Picayo is another place which attracts large number of tourists. The wild natural reserve with the famous mountain Monte Picayo in the backdrop has actually enhanced the beauty of this place.
