When You Travel Commercially What Are Your Really Paying For?
Commercial airline fares are becoming more and more expensive
. When you consider that number of staff provided compared to the passenger numbers you know it can't be that, so it makes you think what are the benefits I get with my airfare?You might be very willing to pay some extra bucks to be treated a little better or to get a meal on the flight but that's not possible. And then maybe you would pay a little more to be able to carry on that bottle of water but really, put that idea on a shelf. And to get you past the security quicker a lot of people would be happy to contribute some dollars but this also won't happen. So we are still left with wondering why the costs on the tickets are getting higher.
The airlines would like you to believe that it is because of the extra security measures but this fee is charged separately on your ticket so you know how much that is costing you above the cost of the ticket. And of course they would like you to believe that it is due to the rising cost of fuel but this too is not really a factor as the cost of fuel is down from a year ago airline ticket prices are not.
And of course you know your fare is not going toward a meal, there's no way a small soda pour and a bag of pretzels can cost a hundred dollars. The movies aren't even really a part of a flight anymore unless it is an extremely long flight. Then the offerings aren't that great, they are usually something that was released quite a while ago so that wouldn't account for a bunch of cost.
In reality you aren't spending toward any benefit for you that will make your flight experience more pleasant, you are just contributing to the commercial airlines so they can give lobbyists money to influence the politicians. Next time you fly and are feeling hurt by the price you can think about that the fourth largest airline, Continental, contributed $385,000 to the lobbyists in just the second quarter. It's time to find another way to go, there have to be some other options to this situation.
