Personalised Gifts For Kids They'll Never Lose
Children are notorious for losing things. Not just their dinner, money, socks or even their most precious possessions such as mobile phones, which let's be fair, most children seem to have glued to their ears or stuck to their fingers 24/7, so how they actually find the time to lose it is beyond most people's belief! They lose just about most things. Constantly. "Where did you last have it?" is the cry most parents make in vain, trying to apply some logic to the loss. "Dunno" is the usual response, if you are lucky to get one at all.
Rather unbelievably, only the other day this writer's own son proclaimed to have lost his entire PE kit, during school time, including very expensive trainers. Upon interrogation, the usual lines of enquiry were followed, "when did you last remember having it?", "did you put it down somewhere?" But no. Apparently it had been permanently attached to his back the whole time. The need to shake the child vigorously and explain if it hadn't been put down it would actually still be on his back was resisted and the writer was resigned to the purchase of a whole new kit, a costly experience. This situation, or similar, is echoed around the planet on a regular basis. No doubt you will have been able to recount a similar experience.
When our offspring are younger, it all seems so much simpler. We tie their gloves together with string, we regularly inspect their school bags and are able to actually go into school and check the cloakroom and associated space related to your child for any missing items. Of course, as they get older, this in itself becomes more difficult. It would seriously damage their 'street cred' if you sent your 11 year old child to school with his or her mittens attached together with string, unless of course, by some bizarre twist of fate, this suddenly became 'the in thing' and so, we resign ourselves to the costly years that follow, replacing most things at least once.
Probably up there with the most frustrating losses would be the loss of the newly purchased gifts for kids and believe me, this does happen. My own child did actually blame the dog for his last misplaced item. Yes really. The dog had run upstairs and somehow managed to steal his entire collection of football memorabilia. He was of course distraught and the dog was truly in the doghouse. Amongst this precious pile of goodies was his favourite item apparently, a personalised football book which was imprinted with its name on the front and real insight into his beloved team's history. A full enquiry was launched, including a strip search and yes, of course this precious bundle turned up under the bed, tucked behind some week old pizza rotting nicely on a plate. The dog was fully vindicated and normality resumed, for a short while anyway.
We really would like to find the perfect present for kids that they will never lose. Now that would be something. The inventor's name in would be up in lights and parents worldwide would worship this wonderful person. Of course, this is never going to happen. The best way forward is to personalise everything they own. At least then when it goes missing, or turns up in some other child's bag, the mother of the child who has an extra hoodie in their schoolbag will stand a fighting chance of returning it to the rightful owner!
