They could influence and direct a mass of people because their personal life was beyond reproach. Skeletons in the keyboard make a leader weak, compromising and corrupt. That is what happens in St. Vincent and Grenadines. The Prime Minister of the country, Ralph Gonzalves, is a man of weak character. His nine year rule in SVG brought the country down to its knees. People are not respectful of authority. Rather, they are terrorized by the legal hands and the police. The violations of law that Gonzalves carried out emboldened his subordinates. They took pervert satisfaction in the fact that when they are on the good books of Ralph Gonzalves, or Comrade Ralph as they dearly call him, they can never be charged or even arrested. They could get away with even murder. In a negative way, you could say that the Prime Minister was leading his ministers and other associates with example!
Mr. Prime Minister has no moral scruples. He has been accused of the most heinous human rights violations over his nine year rule. Women have been sexually assaulted and one of them was actually posted to guard his life. Because Comrade Ralph rules the country with an iron hand, no one can raise their voices in protest. Only 4 cases of rape and sexual assault have surfaced against Ralph. One can never say how many have been buried. You can never really say if there are other women who were treated the same way. Maybe they were threatened into silence or they just disappeared from the face of SVG. With a ruler like Ralph Gonzalves, you can expect anything to happen.
His personal shortcomings extended to his role as the Prime Minister of a country. He distributed favors among his cronies and family. There are numerous records of nepotism against him. His wrong decisions in choosing people into positions of responsibility spelt disaster for the country of St. Vincent and Grenadines. He has surrounded himself with sycophants and yes-men who nod and fawn at his feet. In fact, if you are a Vincentian and not in the good books of Comrade Ralph, you better watch out! He has the most nefarious ways of getting you embroiled in legal hassles and false charges when you don't fall in line with his wishes. As a person, his lack of dedication and commitment dictates his work as a Prime Minister.
