If you are sending any parcels through the post, putting anything into storage or maybe moving home then the chances are you are going to be using cardboard boxes to pack everything into. One of the problems that can arise when using a box is that the edges can split or the seal at the top or bottom can come open which obviously means there is a high risk of your goods falling out. The best thing to do to combat this risk is to use packaging tape to secure your box.
Taping up the edges of your package will give the box much more strength and will dramatically reduce the chances of it splitting down the seam. Likewise, if you have taped up the lid and secured the bottom of it then you will also have minimised the chance of the box coming apart in these areas as well. Failing to do this could result in your possessions or the item you are sending falling out and possibly breaking which is clearly not an ideal scenario.
As well as providing more security by physically making the box stronger, applying tape to your box can also give visual protection for fragile items. If you are sending or packing something that could quite easily break then you should make sure that you mark the box to indicate this. Using fragile tapes will make the box stand out so that anybody who is handling it will know to be more careful with it than they may have otherwise been. If you choose not to apply anything to show that the contents are fragile then how do you expect anyone who moves it to know that what is inside could easily break. Both of the above tasks will add only a couple of seconds onto the time it takes for you to package your items but they can easily be the difference between your goods arriving in one piece or in broken pieces.
