People of all ages have enjoyed and still continue to enjoy playing computer and video games
. They also have enjoyed and continue to enjoy the Internet. What more when both words collided and gave birth to online games? True enough, online games continue to prosper and multiply. Online virtual games have taken the online world by storm. Many play for fun which is usually its main purpose, but others live for it which could be a negative effect.Issues have been raised and parents are concerned. Is it really a disadvantage? Sometimes, it can be when it is not done responsibly. Online games can be harmful especially to children when parents are not mindful of what their children are doing. Violent games have been produced targeting older audiences but it unfortunately can be accessed by children as well.
Influences by friends, classmates, neighbors and such could land such games onto your kids lap. And these mature online games involve socializing with people (older people) which may prove to be a danger to children. Since games usually have a competitive platform, kids maybe exposed to violent language and actions.
Another negative effect is the addiction kids might develop for these games. It could affect their school performance. Also, it could lead to obesity for not getting enough outdoor activities. Sometimes, it could also lead to isolation from the outside world. So the questions most parents come up with are What can I do? and Is there any alternative?
A parent can do something without being obtrusive of his or her childs privacy. He or she can search for online games which may be both entertaining and safe. Yes, they exist. And set it as the homepage of your home computer or the computer your kids use.
Most of these kid-friendly games are usually free to play. Some also offers premium membership which could let a user get access to more exciting in-game features. This is not costly at all. Also, these games usually have online moderators which ensure the safety of children from abusive language. Some even promote teamwork instead of competition. Also, they can be both entertaining and educational.
If your kids have developed addiction, adding a strict curfew to their gaming hours could be applied. Games are unhealthy only if not taken in moderation. Too much of a good thing is not good at all. A parent may not be a boss but guiding them is different from dictating them. Theyd realize them when they get older anyway. If you have the time, maybe you can try to play with them, too. This way you get to somehow experience and understand why children love to play these virtual games. It may be a good bonding moment for you and your children. You get to interact with them and guide them at the same time. Just be careful not to get addicted yourself!
Most of the time, there are answers to problems. One just need to look or search for it, and know where and how to look for it.
