Confectioner's Sugar - This is one of the most used ingredients in holiday baking and you should keep a lot of it on hand as many recipes call for a considerable amount of this sweet and delicious ingredient. One common use of confectioner's sugar is for the making of cookie icing. Likely you will want a few different colors of icing including red, green, yellow, and white so you will probably ant to get a couple of bags of sugar just for this plus you may need it for something else. Three bags of confectioner's sugar is a good starting point.
Food Coloring - Food coloring is another extremely important holiday baking ingredient and it only makes sense to list it after the confectioner's sugar since you will also need this for you homemade frosting. Food coloring will also come in handy for candy making as well if this is something you will be doing for the holidays on top of your baking.
Colored Sugars - These are a must for many favorite cookie recipes and especially if you are making cut-out sugar cookies. Make all sorts of fun holidays cookies and decorate them with the festive colors of the season to add a little holiday cheer to someone's day. Cut-outs also make a great gift for loved ones on your Christmas gift list too. Red and green sugars are a must for those Christmas tree and candy cane cookies that we all love so much.
Finally, another must have for Christmas baking are festive candies such as sprinkles. These are also great for decorating cookies but go great on other baked goods as well. Colored red and green sprinkles on brownies or cup cakes make them not just brownies or cup cakes but festive holiday treats. Add a little Christmas to any of your yummy baked goods to turn them into decadent holiday treats.
