The Minnesota Timberwolves have not fared all that well since trading Kevin Garnett
to the Boston Celtics, and the players the team received in that deal are all but gone. However, the Wolves have one of the biggest collections of young talent in the entire National Basketball Association. Let's take a look at their youngsters.Kevin Love, Power Forward: Love is probably the best player on this team, which is why it was so surprising to see him coming off the bench last year. With Al Jefferson now in Utah, the starting four spot is Love's and he should make the most of it. Love is one of the best rebounders in the league and is one of the more skilled fours you'll find. His shooting touch and passing ability make him a player that fans will get Minnesota Timberwolves tickets to see play. The Wolves should look to run the offense through him this season, though head coach Kurt Rambis didn't seem to love that idea last season.
Corey Brewer, Small Forward/Shooting Guard: Brewer took some big steps last season, refining his shooting touch and becoming more of an all-around player. He still needs to work on his handle, though he's not the same player that was dubbed "The Drunken Dribbler" at Florida. Brewer averaged 13 points, three boards and two assists last season, while adding more than a steal per game. He's also developing into one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, which is his main role on this team. However, if he can continue to work on his offensive skills, he could become much more than a defensive stopper.
Wesley Johnson, Small Forward/Shooting Guard: The Wolves drafted Johnson with the fourth pick in the 2010 draft. While he probably won't be a star, he should be a very solid role player at the very least. Johnson is actually a very similar player to Brewer is a lot of ways. Brewer is a better defender, but Johnson has a better outside shot; those are the main differences between them. The pair might become a bit redundant, especially because they're both better-suited at the three, but both players should contribute on a nightly basis.
Ricky Rubio, Point Guard: Where are you, Ricky? Where are you?
Johnny Flynn, Point Guard: Flynn's presence might end up being the main reason that Rubio never joins the team, but that's not Flynn's fault. I'm not so sure Flynn is a real point guard, though. He looks for his own shot too much and doesn't have great size for the position. He's probably better off coming off the bench in a scoring role, but for now he's their best option at the point.
Michael Beasley, Forward: It will be interesting to see what Beasley's role is this season. He's got the talent to be a star player, but he might not have the head for it. He's getting a fresh start in Minnesota, so we'll see what he makes of the opportunity.
Darko Milicic, Center: It's hard to believe, but Darko is still only 25 years old. The Wolves gave him a hefty contract in the offseason in the hopes that he's finally developing into a starting-caliber player. Darko actually played pretty well after coming over the Wolves in a trade last season, but it remains to be seen if he becomes complacent after receiving a new deal. His passing ability in the post makes him a special player that still has a lot of talent.
Wayne Ellington, Shooting Guard: Ellington showed flashes of the talent that got him drafted last season. He's a bit undersized, but he's getting better at putting the ball on the floor and his shooting stroke is as smooth as it gets. He could fill an important role off the bench this season.
