Math Halloween Activities

Math Halloween activities are a great way to get kids really motivated to do math

. They can be used for school in the classroom, for the home school or at home to provide some extra math practice. Suddenly boring math practice can be loads of fun when a Halloween theme is added to it.

Two simple math Halloween activities that you might like to try are two games with a pumpkin theme. The first is called Pumpkin Smasher. It can be played by two players or two teams. This game can be used to practice basic computation with the first player to give a correct answer getting the right to smash a pumpkin. No it isn't a messy game at all! Let's look at how it is played.

To play Pumpkin Smasher, you'll need to have two sets of pumpkins draw on paper, on a chart or on the board. Each set will need five to ten pumpkins. You could draw them yourself, use stickers or print pictures from the internet. Each player or each team has set.

The two players or one member of each team, compete to be the first to answer the question. This game can be used to practice basic addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. The questions could also be about fractions or percentages or other areas of math. The first one to answer correctly gets to smash one of their pumpkins by crossing out one pumpkin. The first player or team to cross out all of their pumpkins is the winner.Math Halloween Activities

Math Halloween activities can also be used to practice more advanced calculations. Let's say that you want to practice addition of two three digit numbers. A simple way to do this is to create a worksheet of additions that are complete with the answer. Label the worksheet with the title What's under the pumpkin?' Use large digits as you are now going to cover one or two digits in each with a small pumpkin sticker. The children now have to rewrite this addition with all of the digits including those under the pumpkin sticker.

This style of worksheet can also be used to practice counting sequences with the small pumpkin stickers being placed over a few of the numbers in a counting sequence. Leave space under the sequence for the kids to rewrite the sequence including the numbers under the pumpkins.

These math Halloween activities are simple ideas that you can use at home or at school. If you want more Halloween math ideas do a search on the internet for Halloween math activities and you'll find loads of different ways to make math fun for kids at Halloween.
