Marari Beach

Derived from the nearly hundred year old fishing village Mararikulam, the Marari beach is bustling with activity of the local fishermen for most parts of the year. The beach has a tropical climate and can easily qualify as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Tourists are rest assured of peace and tranquility with Marari being blessed with groves of fresh green palm and clean sand. Here, you can look forward to an authentic experience of the fishing village which is well complemented by a very serene and peaceful atmosphere.

The rather undeveloped beach enables vacationers to grab a bite of the traditional life of Kerala. The weather being warm and humid almost all through the year, the period between October and May is most conducive for stay. The view of this pristine beach is breathtaking and the sound of splashing waves makes it a great relaxation spot. A regular sight at the beach is of the local fisher folks setting out in the sea to get their daily catch of fish. There are a number of coir making workshops that blend well with the rows of palm trees lining the beach.

The peaceful place has a very slow pace to the atmosphere around. Besides the main beach area, the terrain around the sandy deserted beach is spruced up by the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and the Kerala backwater canals. The Chandragiri Fort believed to be the ancient capital of the Vijayanagara Empire is also a famous attraction in the vicinity of the beach. It is situated just four kilometers from the beach. Keeping to the rest of Kerala, the beach is also popular for the various Ayurvedic massages offered by the resorts.

The beach stretches almost endlessly and is virtually uncrowded for most parts of the year. Picnickers can enjoy activities like snorkeling, wind-surfing, parasailing and surfing besides a regular swim in the clear waters of the beach. If you love venturing in the natural environs, you can even take a walk down the sandy shores of the beach. Don't leave Marari without eating your heart out of the exotic seafood available here.
