Managing challenging behaviour in children

Managing challenging behaviour in children can be a very tricky business when you don't know how. Challenging behaviour in children can be very frustrating and embarrassing when it happens especially when it happens in public. A lot of parents tend to ignore the behaviour hoping it will go away and others just put up with it not knowing what else to do about it. But realistically no parent wants their child to misbehave so of course you want this type of negative behaviour to stop but how?

Prevention:

Well of course prevention is better than cure. Basically it is better to prevent this behaviour from developing than it is to stop it from happening. To do this you need to encourage your children daily and teach them good behaviour.

Patience:

Patience is important. If you lose your patience with a child it is possibly the worst thing you can do. This is because they see how you are acting and will almost always mimic your behaviour. Managing challenging behaviour in children in this way will definitely not work in eliminating the negative behaviour in fact it will lead to later problems. So if you lose your temper and lash out by hitting your child the chances are that your child will begin to hit others also as they thing it is acceptable because they have seen you do it to them!

Being proactive:

When managing challenging behaviour in children trying you need to take a proactive approach. A perfect example of acting proactively in an attempt to solve a behavioural problem is to not give in to your child when they cry in an attempt to get their own way. You can try and ignore the behaviour or distract the behaviour, but definitely do not give into the behaviour as this will show the child that if they cry enough for what they want they will get it.
