Maintaining the Christmas Spirit

Maintaining the Christmas Spirit

Maintaining the Christmas Spirit

Christmas is a magical time of year, especially for kids. It's the time of year when magic truly does exist for children. All the decorations, the presents, and sometimes even the snow, it's an eye-popping wonderland for everyone, and we should all strive to keep that spirit alive, no matter what, as it's the one good thing in life that brings us all together and reverberates the meaning of peace, unison and tranquillity.

For adults, or grown up children, Christmas can have a completely different meaning from what it does for kids it could mean the getting together of family, or having one day where you can let all your problems or worries slide. Either way, it always has and always will mean a lot to everyone. For kids, however, it's a completely different story, and as adults it's down to us to keep them believing in the Christmas spirit.

A major part in the run-up to Christmas, and something that has been a tradition for many years now, is writing letters to Santa. Santa letters are kids' way of letting Saint Nick know that they've been good all year and that they want a present or presents as a reward. A more recent tradition though, is children receiving letters from Santa. This is a brilliant, ingenious idea as it instils the idea that Santa is real and he's responding to their wishes. There's nothing more magical as a child than the idea that a jolly fat man tours the world on Christmas Eve on a sleigh pulled by reindeer and visits each house, sneaking down the chimney to leave all the presents they so politely asked for, taking a sip of whiskey and feeding a carrot to his reindeer to keep up their strength. It's delightful.Maintaining the Christmas Spirit

However, Santa letters aren't the only way to keep the spirit of Christmas alive. Maintaining old traditions and habits, such as putting up the Christmas tree, hanging stockings over the fireplace, and going for fun walks in the winter wonderland are all a big part of Christmas, and should be ignored. Even adults still find these things magical, even if they don't admit it. Baking cookies and Christmas cakes or making your own decorations are fun activities for all the family and can be put to practical use as well. Telling Christmas stories and singing Christmas songs is a definite yes as well, you can even develop that into carol singing if you want. Not only is it fun for all the family, but it brings some Christmas cheer to others as well.

Christmas is meant to be a wonderful, fun time of the year when all the family can come together as one and enjoy the spirit and meaning of Christmas without the worries of other problems in life. It's a time for giving, a time for rejoicing, a time for happiness and joy. Don't let the spirit of Christmas get lost in the constant worries of today's world, especially not for children!
