. The London Film Museum is the only museum in London that allows customers to explore the magic behind the filmmaking process. They have a wide range of original movie props and costumes from some of the best-known films, with pieces from Batman, Terminator and Star Wars you really feel as though you're part of the movies.The London Film Museum, (previously known as the Movieum), was established in February 2008 by Jonathan Sands. This followed the success of the Star Wars Exhibition to which he co-promoted at the same venue the previous year. Jonathan became a resident photographer at Elstree Film Studios in 1997 where he met Nicholas Harrison who owned a Prop and Events Company called Weird and Wonderful'.
When Nicholas sadly passed away at the age of 37, Jonathan later bought the collection and company in 2001 and made it into a fully working production company. He created such attractions as The Seven Deadly Sins for Thorpe Park and the Chelsea Football Club Centenary Museum at Stamford Bridge.
He was invited to help co-ordinate a tie-in attraction between Lucasfilm and Red Bull at the Monaco Grand Prix, which included the transportation and installation of a full sized spacecraft, complete with actors in costume. After the success of the Star Wars Exhibition in May 2007 had come to an end, Jonathan moved his collection of movie props over to the County Hall in early 2008. The museum officially opened in February that year.
The museum has many fascinating exhibits, including the famous Charlie Chaplin Exhibition that details his life and career of show business. The museum is privileged to have a rare collection of Chaplin's home videos on display. The museum has partnerships with Warner Bros, Twentieth Century Fox, Lucasfilm, Paramount, Pinewood Studios and many more.
The London Film Museum also has models on loan from Madame Tussauds, which are displayed around the museum.
They also have a brand new exhibition on display celebrating the work of filmmaker; Ray Harryhausen. The exhibit entitled, Ray Harryhausen: Myths & Legends opened on June 29th and features original creatures from his films and shows people how he was inspired to create some of the most memorable moments in film history. To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of 20th Century Fox, a new exhibition is open for the summer displaying memorable props and costumes.
The exhibition includes an amazing selection of costumes from such Fox films as Night of the Museum, Australia, Fight Club, Minority Report, Master and Commander, Eragon, Moulin Rouge, Fantastic Four and X-Men. They also have memorable props from such films as Star Wars and Alien. The museum also offers visitors the chance to have a professional photo taken inside a Star Wars set piece.
This is a must see for anyone who loves films, it has something for everyone. Entry is 12 for adults and 10 for concessions, however you only pay for one when you taketwo with the taketwo 2 for 1 London voucher and guidebook.
