Lg's Gd880 Mini, A Review

In response to the increasingly demanding public wanting a mobile phone that is compact

, stylish yet easy to use, but still does not lack features, LG have come up with the hugely impressive GD880 Mini.

Modern mobile phones have to be more than a simple communications device, and often the support of the user own media such as audio and video files has become almost as important as the more basic telephone features. The LG GD880 Mini certainly does not disappoint on this front. Thanks to a very impressive screen (which we'll look into later) this phone seems perfect for multi media usgae. A bevy of audio file formats are supported including MP3, WMA and eAAC+. Thanks to LG fitting a stereo headphone jack on the handset, the user can listen to such files on their own choice of headphones, potentially greatly enhancing the audio experience. If album art is available then the Mini utilises it. It also makes great use of the handsets accelerometer chip by showing a great rolling overview of albums, very similar to the iPhones, when the phone is held in landscape mode. DivX and xVid are both supprted when it comes to video files, and a real standout feature is Dolby Movie sound beinging incorporated, however this is best appreciated via headphones. Photographs look great, with two different overviews available depending on what position you hold the phone in, and thanks to multi touch, the pinch and zoom facility works very well.

A very nice camera is included on the LG GD880 Mini. The 5 million pixel snapper gives great image reproduction and thanks to auto focus facility as well as a host of other settings which include smile and face detection, geo-tagging and digital zoom. Video footage is slighty disappointing, but is still reasonable VGA quality at a rate of 30 frames per second. A neat addition is the inclusion of a second camera to facilitate video calling on the front of the handset, a feature often overlooked on many modern handsets. A microSD card slot is located on the side of the handset, meaning potential memory upgrades to a massive 32GB.

LG have incorporated Twitter and Facebook clients directly onto the homescreen of the GD 880 Mini. This is a huge plus point for the ever more online teens and twentysomethings. However do not be misled into thinking this handset is aimed at the younger market. Thanks to its functional and impressive new homescreen layout, coupled with its very stylish look, favouring harsh edges to curves, this is perhaps the most mature effort from LG, the manafacturer who produced handsets such as the Pop, Chocolate and Viewty.

All things considered, LG have produced a great little handset that retains an impressive host of features despite being a size to trouble the "fashion" phone area of the market. Its great 480 x 854 resolution 3.2" screen is one of the best around, and the phones versatility and look will win it fans in every area of the market.
