Fort Kochi and Mattancherry:

Fort Kochi has preserved its history well and also presents the vivid panorama of time when traders and warriors landed on her shores. On the first day of sightseeing, it will be dificult for any traveler to absorb the beauty of Fort Kochi.

St Francis Church:

The Portuguese traveler and merchant Pedro Alvarez Cabral, dropped anchor at Kochi in 1500 accompanied by Francis- can and Dominican friars and Jesuit missionaries. Vasco da Gama followed in 1502 and he died in 1524 and was interred in St Francis Church. It is the oldest European church in India and is name changed with every two colonizer who claimed the land as his own.

The Dutch Cemetery:

As you emerge from the church, to the left there is parade ground where the successive European shoulders conducted drills. Passed the ground down the road there is Dutch Cemetery where the first grave was laid in 1724.

House Hunt:

Fort Kochi is dotted with the old colonialstyle houses in the good condition. There is a lovely mansion to gape at it named Thakur House, which was built by the Dutch as a club, the house stands overlooking the sea and is said to have underground passage.
