Kosher meat will almost always be more expensive than the non-kosher alternative, and for good reason. The process of kosher meat requires much more manpower, and many animals brought in for slaughter are determined to be unfit, incurring a financial loss to the kosher slaughterhouses.

In order to save as much as possible in terms of kosher meat, here are several guidelines that will hopefully save you some money.

Shopping online is probably the easiest way to save money when purchasing kosher meat. First of all, the money you will save on gas alone will be huge. Unless you live directly next to a kosher butcher shop, you will probably spend a fair amount of time driving to and from the butcher, and by shopping online you require no gas at all. Secondly, online kosher resources often have the most competitive prices on the market, as they compete on a national basis. You can frequently check for deals without having to schlep out to the store.

Another great way to save on kosher meat is by buying uncut meat. A whole chicken, for example, will always be cheaper than buying all the parts of the chicken, pre-cut. Instead of buying just two chicken thighs, consider buying a whole chicken and freezing the rest for later.

Buying in bulk can also save you money. Often kosher suppliers will offer deals for special occasions whether they be Shabbat, Holidays, or even Super Bowl. By purchasing these packages instead of buying each product separately, you will no doubt save money.

Additionally, by planning a little in advance you may also be able to save a few dollars. Prices for Passover foods may rise as Passover gets nearer, but if you think a little in advance, you will not have to pay the price for procrastinating.

Finally, there is no sales tax for those items purchased online. When buying large quantities of meat, it is absolutely cheaper, even with the shipping fee, to purchase items online.
