The history of fairies can be traced all the way back to Celtic times. Although there are reports of fairies prior to this period, we will concentrate only on the Celtic era. During those times there were only good and bad fairies. Children that live during these times were frightened of fairies and had worried about being haunted by them. To be like one or dress up like one was completely out of the question. Parents feared the dark fairies and would have frowned upon their children wanting to dress like them whether it be good or bad fairy. Dressing like a fairy may attract them. To draw any kind of fairy to a person was not something people were comfortable with in those times.

It was not until the 1800's where the focused change from fear into a curiosity. The 1900's brought fairies into the mainstream with movies, books, clothing and more. Later a man by the name of "Walt Disney" took children on an adventure they would never forget. The animated adventure was called "Peter Pan".

"Peter Pan" was more than an animated movie, it was an exploration in the inner drive and strength that all women posses. It was a Tinker Fairy from Pixie Hollow, who went by the name of "Tinkerbell" who captivated the hearts of the both the animated characters and audiences around the world.

This marked a complete reversal from the way people would think about fairies. They were now courageous, soft, beautiful, fun and a friendly to children. Walt quickly capitalized on this with selling "Tinkerbell" clothing, lunchbox, pens, stationary and more. Kid's clothing was a big hit. Halloween costumes followed. Walt had a way of making the most frightening mystical beings loveable and friendly. When your little girl wants to dress up like a fairy this Halloween, you will now understand why.
